Our Mission

The Provincial Committee for Monitoring Mining Environment Rehabilitation Activities (CSAREM-SK) is responsible for the complete oversight of environmental repair in the South Kivu mining sector.

Our detailed responsibilities include:

  • MONITORING:Regularly inventorying mining sites in urgent need of rehabilitation and ensuring the quality of rehabilitation projects.
  • EVALUATION: Assessing the technical offers of organizations and service providers responsible for rehabilitation.
  • COMPLIANCE: Ensuring mining cooperatives respect legal provisions
    for hygiene, health, and environmental protection and meet their
    obligations to the state and local communities.
  • MANAGEMENT: Managing the special rehabilitation fund account and
    overseeing the negotiation of specifications (cahiers des charges)
    between mining companies and impacted communities.
  • COORDINATION: Serving as the framework for consultation and conflict
    resolution related to environmental rehabilitation in the mining sector
    and seeking business and implementation partnerships.
  • REPORTING: The committee is responsible for executing the budget
    and preparing financial statements.

Our Structure

Provincial Committee

The CSAREM-SK is placed under the supervision of the Provincial Minister in charge of Mines. It is composed of seven (7) members: [ADD PROFILE WITH PICTURE OF EACH MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE]

LOCAL STRUCTURE: On the initiative of CSAREM-SK, Local Monitoring
Committees (CLSAREM) will be established in Decentralized Territorial Entities
(ETDs), such as cities, communes, sectors, and territories with mining
operations. These local committees may, in turn, establish Local Subcommittees
at the village level.

Local Structure
